Pedro Barros defeated an elite field to win Red Bull Bowl Rippers in Marseille as Shaun White continued his quest for success after switching his snowboard for a skateboard.
American White has cleaned up in the snowboarding world with several Olympic and X Games gold medals, however wants to see if he can beat the world’s best on a skateboard as well leading into Tokyo 2020. The 31-year-old failed to qualify for Sunday’s final, however will continue to compete the rest of the year with a decision made in the New Year on whether he will make a concerted bid for glory in Japan.
American Alex Sorgente led the qualifiers for the third edition at the legendary Prado with the eventual finalists doing an individual presentation run then seven-minute jam session together. Brazilian Barros came out on top of the high-quality competition with American Chris Russell second and Barros’ compatriot Luiz Francisco third as local hero Vincent Matheron finished fifth. For the first ever women’s edition, Brazilian Yndiara Asp took the win over Brighton Zeuner (USA) and Poppy Star Olsen (AUS) with Marseille locals Maya Jacquemain and Alice Attali also shining in the final.
